HAC shines at St Albans 10km

On Sunday 20th July, the Summer Series heated up with its 12th Fixture – the fast and vibrant St Albans Summer 10km!

Seven HAC athletes took on the flat, out and back course, chasing down personal bests and those all important Summer Series points!

Leading the HAC charge was Jeff Shotton in 54th place. Hot on his heels was Adam in 57th, Gary in 58th who also finished 2nd in his age category, congratulations! Jeremy followed in 77th and Ed in 95th.

Our first female finisher was Michaela, crossing the line in 104th and earning a fantastic 3rd place in her age category, incredible! Next home was Deepak in 113th. Wrapping up the HAC team with a great effort was Liz, finishing in 236th and achieving 5th in her age category, brilliant!

With 12 fixtures now complete, the Summer Series standing are taking shape!

With 77 athletes battling it out in the male competition, Jeff continues to set the pace at the top of the standings, extending his lead with a maximum of 25 points from the St Albans 10km, bringing his total to 173 points. Alex stands in 2nd place with 135 points, Deepak climbs into 3rd place on 114 points, thanks to strong run at St Albans that earned him 20 valuable points.

In the women’s standings, 48 athletes are in the hunt for the title, with Katie leading the way on 118 points. Closely following in 2nd is Hannah on 110 points. Making a strong move into 3rd place is Liz, who now has 103 points after an excellent performance at St Albans, collecting 24 points!

What’s next?

Fixture 13 of the Summer Series is the Burnham Beeches Half Marathon on Sunday 17th August. This scenic and popular race is nearly full, with over 90% of places now sold. Enter now to secure your spot and chance to earn more Summer Series points!

The final Southern Athletics League fixture takes place on Sunday 31st August at Lee Valley. This is key event for the club and we’re calling on all members to help us finish the season strong. We need competitors in every event to maximise team points!

Away from the Summer Series, the Gosunder Handicap Race will be held on Saturday 30th August at 3:30pm with a BBQ to follow back at the clubhouse. More details can be found here!

FAQs

How do I score points?

For all events, you will score 5 points for participating and finishing. The first male and female HAC athletes to finish each event will earn an additional 20 points, second place will receive 19, and so on.

Do I need to compete in all the fixtures?

You don’t have to compete in every fixture! Your overall score for the Summer Series will be the total of your 8 highest-scoring events.

Will there be prizes for the Summer Series winners?

The Summer Series leaderboard will be updated regularly, and the winners will receive the Summer Series Shield at the end-of-season awards night!
