Thursday 11th June saw the 3rd 5km Training Race of the summer take place. A healthy field of 53 finishers crossed the finish line – exactly the same amount as last month. I could’ve almost copied and pasted the previous race report!. Unfortunately, the weather was the opposite end of the scale, with runners treated to a rather damp evening, though the cooler conditions opened the race up to faster timings. There was also a sea of ‘lavender’ t-shirts on show, possibly hinting of a recent endurance event. Whether they were worn as badges of honour or simply because it was the only clean bit of kit they had remains unclear!
A big thank you to our officials, Phil Welch, Sharon Talbot and Andy Torrance for recording and publishing the results once again.
James Laing was first to finish, fresh from a 12th-place finish at the Swansea Half Marathon the previous weekend, crossing the line in 16:33. James was followed home by Ryan Hamdy (17:22) and Travis Bowcambe (18:03).
Kirsty O’Rourke was the first female finisher in 20:12, followed by Gabby Nero (21:10) and Nikki Penty-Alvarez (21:48).
Training Race Results
Following the race, and despite the weather’s best attempts to disturb our plans, our BBQ still went ahead. Pete took up his position on the grill underneath the awning, accompanied by Natalie and John, serving up burgers and hotdogs to our hungry runners and bar staff alike!
Paul and Sian then hosted a quiz, including a themed World Cup round, as Mexico and South Africa battled it out in the opening game in the tournament’s opening game on the screen in the background!
Check out the race footage on our socials!
