Steeplechase Workshop

The North London Athletics Network invites you to a free practical training Steeplechase workshop led by established Endurance Coach Rob McKim.
· What are the skills you need to coach steeplechase? How do you train an athlete to create the potential to be successful in races from a youth athlete or as an adult?

· Saturday 23rd March 2013 Register from 9.30. Start s 10am. Ends 1pm.
· Parliament Hill Fields running track Hampstead Heath London NW5 1AR
· You will gain knowledge and skills of the key elements of steeplechase through discussion, practical work and observation; what and how to coach an athlete and different coaching styles. Learn to Identify the strength and weaknesses of an athlete using progressive introductory activities – low hurdles; step on barriers; drills and skills; spatial awareness; mobility and flexibility; and how to use the sandpit for training for the water jump. Event requirements and creating a competitive edge; technical skills; advantages and disadvantages of clearing barriers as well as the V step on approach. How to set up the environment to coach the steeplechase including use of modified equipment. A review of the obstacle layout of the track inside and outside lane water jumps and the need for economy of effort.
· Please bring spikes if you have them; wear sports clothes and trainers and bring water and snacks. All coaches, coach assistants, athletes, students and also non-club members of all levels including beginners welcome. Minimum age 15 years.
