April Training Race

Thursday 9th April saw the first 5km Training Race of the Summer take place! A good field of 57 runners gathered on a pleasant evening. Before the race began, Andy Torrance guided runners through the safety briefing and course layout for those tackling the race for the first time and to refresh everyone’s memory since last September! Adding to the excitement, our 6pm Thursday Training Group kept up their tradition of celebrating birthdays with Ruth receiving a special pre-race serenade!

Leading the charge was Harry Hopkins, coming home in and impressive 17:30, edging out Kirk O’Rourke by just a single second, finishing in 17:31! Ryan Hamdy secured third place with 18:00.

Hannah Laing was the first lady home and 7th overall in 19:22. Closely behind was Clara Higgs, claiming 8th place in 19:51. Nikki Penty-Alvarez rounded of the women’s podium in 20:31.

The evening didn’t stop at the finish line. After the race, there was a fantastic turnout of over 50 members staying on to enjoy a well-earned chilli feast cooked by John and Patrick! Peter hosted a Spanish themed quiz, accompanied with the clubhouse bar serving up some Spanish themed cervezas!

A big thank you goes to our race officials, Phil Welch, Gavin Collett, Sharon Talbot, Andy Torrance, Charlotte Cox and Saffron Dobson. Thank you to Peter Humm for hosting the quiz, John Dobbs and Patrick Griffin for a delicious post-race chilli and the clubhouse team for keeping everyone hydrated!
