Hillingdon Golden Oldies in the medals again
On a crisp sunny morning at Croydon, our M50 vets went one better than last year, coming 2nd to South London in the M50 team race. Richard Jenkin (38:18) again came 11th, with Simon Claridge (39:17) 16th and David Newman (40:27) 25th. Our other finishers were John Bignell (44:24) 66th (14th M55) , John Myall (47:14) 81st (18th M60), Tony Shaw (51:45) 94th (24th M60) , Steve Thompson (52:49) (M50) 99th and Brian Feldman (55:12) 103rd (29th M60). 108 finished.
Our M70 team triumphed for the 3rd year running. Once again, Roy Cnudde (34:21) lead the field home, in spite of a marshall unintentionally trying to sabotage the race by directing the men a different route from the ladies. Roy again had to win the race twice after doing a detour and losing 2 or 3 places. The rest of us argued with the marshall and went the right way! Doug Milsom (36:01) came 2nd, after finishing 4th in the 2 previous years, just catching a fading John Taylor of Hailsham in the last 200 yards. Mick Miller (38:02) came 5th (4th M70) behind the evergreen John Steed of Herts Phoenix (1st M75). Ricky Johnson (44:26) was 7th (3rd M75). 8 finished.
We were not represented in the M40 and Women’s races.
At the same location, three of our girls represented Middlesex in the SEAA Junior Inter-Counties.
In the Under 20 race, Hannah Wells (30:09) came 28th in a field of 38. In the Under 17 race, Esme Stallard (23:30) came 57th and Rebecca Miles (23:44) came 59th in a field of 63. Well done to them for representing their county.
