Saturday May 10th – Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs:

Message from Ben Pochee of Highgate Harriers

In just over 14 days we are hosting our Night of the 10,000m PBs and our army of volunteers will welcome 2012 Olympic Triathlon Gold medallist Alistair Brownlee, four time Olympian Jo Pavey, the current European Cross Country Champion Sophie Duarte, not to mention a host of other athletes who ‘just’ competed at the Olympics, plus over 100 exciting aspiring athletes. These international ‘A’ race athletes are descending on Parli Hill as our event incorporates the British & English Championships and the GB European Championship Trials.

What makes it unique?

You! In a nutshell I’m keen to grow this event to be so spectator friendly that non athletic aficionados will want to attend, as the unique atmosphere required to create great racing, needs equally great support, so that is you, me and our friends.

Spectators can watch 100% for free from lane 4 of the track, we have a live band, a licensed bar, top quality BBQ nosh, freshly ground coffee stall, a 13sqm Jumbo screen, a pumping PA system, Tom Pink Youth relays, Tug-of-war, live internet video streaming and ex world record holder Dave Bedford.

And here is a recent article – http://eightlane.org/blog/2014/04/15/100m-races-are-great-short-stories-but-may-10th-offers-the-opportunity-to-watch-five-10000m-novels-unfold-uk-10000m-title-set-to-be-one-of-the-most-hotly-contested-in-recent-memory/

Invite a friend or two.. or three:

As we know our sport is beautifully small and as such each of us are disproportionately empowered to make a big impact if we choose, put simply ‘we are the sport and the sport is us’. So please forward the invite below to your friends and work colleagues, bring your noise makers and lets demonstrate to athletic virgins just how sexy & fun our sport can be.

The first race is at 6pm and racing will end around 9.30pm. Our very own Rob Thompson will be competing so it would be good to get some supporters along.
