National XC Championships

At the National XC Championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday 22 Feb, six HAC ladies tested themselves not only against the best runners in the country but the challenging hills, mud and even more mud to complete the 8km (6km for U20s) course. 830 ladies ran the Senior Women’s race with Catriona leading the HAC team in 130th place, followed by Hannah 174th, Caroline 459th, Mel 480th and Zoe 512th. Whilst Hollie completed the U20 race in 119th place out of 121.

As a team we came a respectable 37th out of 82 and finished the season on a high!

Credit goes to the ten athletes who tested themselves over 7.5 miles of “proper” cross country at the National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill on Saturday. With overnight rain before the race falling on already saturated ground, the conditions were extremely soft and muddy and combined with a challenging hilly course, those that competed should take satisfaction in the fact that cross country races don’t come much tougher. Matt Whitfield was first scorer for the club in 280th with Kallum Pritchard 348th, Connell Metcalf 560th, Dan Thompson 682nd, Guy Green 861st and Tony Grant 959th completing the six to score team in 55th place out of the 112 clubs that fielded a team. Behind Tony, Alan Tilly finished 1377th, Jeff Shotton (who gave everyone else a two minute headstart) 1387th, Andrew Murphy 1530th and Trevor Steeples 1697th to complete Hillingdon AC’s representation in the race. There were 1783 finishers.
