Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men enjoyed their best result of the season so far in the Met League with the A team finishing a season’s best fifth in Division One and the B team finishing second in Division Three at a wet and muddy Horsenden Hill. This result sees the A team move up to seventh in Division One and increases their chances of avoiding relegation while the B team have moved up to third in Division Three and kept alive the chance of promotion to Division Two.
Robert Thompson was first scorer for the club in 17th with James Laing in 27th and Daniel Thompson, Ed Campbell and Chris Ingram all breaking the top 100, finishing 66th, 69th and 95th. The team was bolstered by Philip Warburton (108th) making his senior Met League debut after racing for the club as a junior athlete some years ago, the return of Martin Bateman (112th) and a Met League debut for Wes Godfrey (118th). The A team scoring 12 was completed by Alex Ozdemir (157th).
Dave Newman for first scorer for the B team in 177th, just catching and passing Paul Leppard (179th) in the closing stages of the race, whilst the team was strengthened by Brett Hutchinson making a return to racing cross country (225th). The B team scoring eight was completed by Andrew Malyan in 254th.
Elsewhere, there were Met League season’s debuts for Dave Smith (257th), John Bignell (301st), Martin Searle (316th) and Tony Shaw (343rd). There were 366 finishers in the Men’s race with 36 athletes competing from Hillingdon AC.
