15 lovely ladies opened our 2016 cross country campaign on a beautifully warm autumnal day reports Donna Nash.
The A team achieved a very respectable 4th place in Division 1 thanks to our scorers:
Stacey Ward (4th in 22.02) and within 7 seconds of the first lady. Excellent performance and fresh from a long haul holiday!
Gemma Barry (14th in 23.45) making her debut and certainly making her mark already and top marks for adding not just a little glamour!
Ciara Williams (29th in 24.45) starting the season in fine style and very strong.
Hannah Wells (34th in 25.11) improving her position by 9 and her time by 10 seconds from last year.
Kate Shockley (65th in 27.19) going in to the race confident from defeating several of her students earlier in the week.
Natalie Wickings (70th in 27.32) another debutante who is a welcome addition to the squad.
Notable absences were Eva Mack and Jen Harvey – both nursing injuries.
Our ‘B’ team – finishing 7th in Div 2 were:
Lotte Visser (81st in 28.15) our little Dutch diamond – hard core with a sparkling personality.
Melanie Spencer (104th in 29.35 and 1st Vet home). Bright performance as always and taking over a minute off her time from last year! Well done.
Lynn Hyde (112th in 30.15 and 2nd Vet) making a welcome return to competition after suffering with illness last year. She said keeping Mel’s bright shorts in sight spurred her on!
Lesley Conway (131st in 31.30 and 3rd Vet – a lot of 3’s in this result) on good form and solid performance from Lesley who has found a new rival in:
Freya Hollingsworth (133rd in 31.32) 2 seconds behind our amazing V60 and an excellent debut performance. Welcome to the team Freya!
Lyndsey Browne made up the scorers for the Vets arriving home in 36.49 and helping the Vets to 8th place.
Thanks to our remaining ladies who all achieved a PB – Katherine Wells (33.14), Charlotte Ford (37.17 and making her debut) and Christina Benjamin (37.56).
The team spirit was second to none as usual and I am very proud and grateful for the huge effort made by all.
Looking forward to similar success at Stevenage on 12th November.
