Met League End of Season Round Up – Juniors

HAC juniors put on another fine display at the final Met League of the season at Trent Park. Understandably given the travel and clash with National Indoors, numbers competing were lower than at previous races. Well done to all our junior athletes who represented the club so well this Cross Country season – not just on your performance but also the supportive spirit which you showed to fellow team mates and competitors. The work put in this cross country season will definitely pay dividends as we move into track season. Overall we finished 10th out of 16 clubs in The Howard Williams Junior Trophy; with the outstanding performance going to our U13 Boys who finished 3rd in their league. A better turnout out in the first race at Claybury, would have put us in a position to realistically challenge for the title.

It is a very exciting future for this team of boys as most of them move through to Junior Men next year. An individual’s top 4 performances are scored to provide their individual ranking, the following athletes all finished 4 races – with some excellent league positions achieved:

U11 G:
Elsie Fitzgerald – 3rd

U13 G:
Edey Kestell – 12th

Junior Women:
Amae Van Zyl – 11th

U13 B:
Dylan Lewis – 2nd
Lewis Wake – 13th
Charlie Reed – 15th
Adam Strinic – 19th

Junior Men:
Edward Spencer – 23rd
Alex Shotton – 55th

None of these achievements would be possible without the tireless support and dedication of our volunteer coaches – so a big shout out to Lee, Idris, Stef, Jim and all who support them. Also thank you to our wonderful parents who have braved the elements and ensured the children were always fully prepared, remembering to bring their numbers & pins made my job so much easier! You have been wonderful supporters not just of your own children but to all the team.

For most of our athletes, this will be the end of their Cross Country Season; but for a few of our most talented they have been selected to run for the county at the national intercounties in Loughborough and/or represent their County School association at the English Schools Cross Country Champs in Nottingham. This is a privilege that many athletes can only dream of – so go out, do your best but most importantly enjoy the experience, knowing that all of HAC are super proud of you!
