London Marathon Club Ballot and Brighton Places

HAC will have 3 or 4 club places on offer to club members for the London Marathon on the 22nd April 2018.

If you are a fully paid up club member and have been for at least 1 year, have a VLM rejection slip/email for next year’s race, not previously won a club place in the last 3 years and want to do the marathon please email me, Martin Bateman at by the end of Friday 1st December 2017. Applications from people without a VLM rejection slip/emails can request to be put in the draw but will only be included if they reached the “seeded” requirement which is explained below.

Places will be awarded again this year by ballot and the draw/s will be at the clubhouse on Sat 2nd December. These places are offered by VLM as a kind of reward to clubs so in turn the seeded applicants will be those that have put a lot into aspects of management and organisation of HAC.

If we receive 3 places 2 will available in the “seed” draw and 1 in the open draw. If we get 4 places 2 will available in the “seed” draw and 2 in the open draw.

If for example 5 people apply and only 1 is of “seed” standard then that “seed” will automatically get the place. There will then be a draw for 1 place from the remaining 4 names. If for example there are 5 applications and 2 are of “seed” standard then there will be a Seed draw between the 2 people. The unulucky seed will then go into the draw with the other 3 for the 1 place left. If there are no “seed” applications then everyone goes into the draw if there are over 2 applications.

Anyone applying will need to pay the entry costs themselves if drawn from the ballot.

We also have 10 places on offer for the Brighton Marathon on 15th April.

You have until 31 December to apply to me for a club place. If more than 10 apply I will use the same system as for the London Marathon. Athletes must pay their own entry fee of £69.50
