Coombe Hill Fell Race

Sunday 1st June saw 9 HAC athletes turn out at Coombe Hill Fell Race, the 6th fixture of the Summer Series!

The Coombe Hill Fell Race is a fun, hilly 7km fell run. It starts and finishes in Wendover, Bucks. The race costs £5 to enter, which includes a free pint of beer at the end of the race!

James Laing was the first HAC athlete home in a time 29:56, in 11th place. Hannah Laing followed in a time of 34:39 and finished as 2nd woman! Alex Giffin 36:45, Jeff Shotton 34:46, Ed Harrison 38:20, Jeremy Cox 40:47, Deepak Pandiyarajan 43:00, Dan Nolan 44:25 and Alan Wells 58:32. Well done all!

James Laing makes it 3 wins from 3 Summer Series entries so far, placing in 3rd place overall. In 2nd place is Alex Giffin with 92 points, closing the gap on Jeff Shotton by 1 point, who sits top of the leaderboard on 116 points after scoring in all 6 events so far!

Zoe Dobbs tops the women’s leaderboard with 77 points. Hannah Laing rises to 2nd place with 75 points, also achieving 3 wins from 3 Summer Series entries!

The next Summer Series fixture is the 5km Training Race on Thursday 12th June, followed by the Cliveden 10km on Saturday 14th June and the Southern Athletics League at Parliament Hill on Sunday 22nd June!

FAQs

How do I score points?

For all events, you will score 5 points for participating and finishing. The first male and female HAC athletes to finish each event will earn an additional 20 points, second place will receive 19, and so on.

Do I need to compete in all the fixtures?

You don’t have to compete in every fixture! Your overall score for the Summer Series will be the total of your 8 highest-scoring events.

Will there be prizes for the Summer Series winners?

The Summer Series leaderboard will be updated regularly, and the winners will receive the Summer Series Shield at the end-of-season awards night!

From 1 April 2026, the age groups in which young athletes compete under UKA rules will change from U13, U15, U17 and U20, as is currently the case, to U14, U16, U18 and U20.
