Serpentine 5K 29th March 2013

A small squad of HAC athletes went to town and dominated the Serpentine Last Friday 5K  in Hyde Park on Good Friday. The day was cold and breezy, but at least the sun showed it’s face for more than 5 minutes to add a spring to the step. Matthew Fayers competed in the race for the first time and came away with victory and a U20 course record of 15:09. Rob Thompson was a close third with a road 5k PB of 15:41. Martin Bateman V35 (me) was 5th in 16:15 and Chris Ingram completed the top 10 with a PB of 16:59. Carl Yates made a rare appearance and headed a trio of close finishing HAC men in 20th with 17:54, Simon Connell V35 was 22nd in 17:58 and Paul Leppard ran 18:02 for 24th.  Super vet, John Bignell V60 almost matched his age in 62nd with 20:01, Martin Searle V55 was exactly a minute behind with 73rd and Jane Newman FV55 finished 129th in 27:47. 146 finished.
