Some 18 members and relatives of Hillingdon AC enjoyed a Wednesday out in Oxford, and also took part in the Teddy Hall Relays reports Doug Milsom. The course is a fairly flat 3.6 mile lap of mixed road, parkland and towpath, in which mainly University teams take part, together with several clubs. However, the main object of the day seems to be the “après-run” in a succession of Oxford watering holes!
Our A team was led out by Martin Bateman in a quick 19:25, followed by Andy Miles 21:52, Paul Leppard 21:25 and John Bignell 25:39. Dave Smith ran the first leg for the B team in 23:31, having declined the chance to star in the A team! He was followed by Bob Burton 26:38, John Luscombe 27:04 and Martin Searle 26:41. The C team opened with Alan Wells 30:58, Doug Milsom 30:21, Daniel Burton (Bob’s transatlantic cousin) 26:50 and Chelsea Burton (Daniel’s partner) 32:42. Our D team had only one runner, Bobby Beales who finished in 36:54. Two other Hillingdon men guested in Northwood Striders teams, Stefan Dokic running their A team 4th leg in 23:48 and Mick Miller, still suffering with his hip, their B team 4th leg in 41:16.
It was very good to see a Hillingdon Ladies team complete the race. Lucy Duncan ran 29:00, super-vet Angela Duncan 34:06 and Wendy Harbottle 27:03.
