On Saturday 28th January 2012 11 HAC athletes competed in The SEAA XC champs reports Martin Bateman.
Stamner Park on a South Downs hill outside Brighton was the venue and it provided a real test of strength and stamina over steep, but thankfully for a change in January, dry course for good fun racing. I would liken the course to our Ruislip course but on a much bigger scale. In the senior men’s race which was 1 short lap of about a kilometre plus 3 just under 5K each there was only a short section of flat terrain to relax a little before muscle burning big ascents and joint shaking descents on hard chalky earth.
Hopefully the SEAA will choose to return there in a few years because those that didn’t compete missed out on a good event and HAC was well down as a club based on the talent and numbers we have to offer. Well done to all our competitiors who can say they conquered Stanmer Park.
