Joy for Julia

Julia Bleasdale ran under the UK Olympic “A” standard for 10,000 metres on Sunday 29th April in the USA to earn a firm hold of an Olympic place this summer.

Article from The Daily Telegraph.

Julia competed in the Payton Jordan Invitaional meeting in Stanford, California finishing 4th in 31:29.57. That time is 15 seconds inside the “A” standard, ranks her current UK 1 by some margin, 5th on the UK all-time list and the icing on the cake is that she run a club record too. Not a bad afternoons work!

I have been reliably informed that there are no formal UK trials for 10K, so it is a case of seeing if 3 women run faster before the selectors make their decision in July. It would be hard to see her not being the first Hillingdon Athlete at the Olympics since 1984. Fingers crossed.
