There is a new race in town and it’s called the Ickenham 5 and as the name implies, it is in Ickenham! A flat and fast 2 lap road race that starts and finishes in Swakeleys Park, Ickenham. It has got PB potential course written all over it.
This is not a HAC organised race but has been organised by Active Training World with HAC members, local runners, sports people and the local community in mind.
The organisers of the Ickenham Festival, are helping promote and assist the race and a large donation from any profits will be going to them for their chosen charities. HAC used to organise a very strong 5 mile race called the Hillingdon 5. That race is where the UK record time of 22.41 was set. Unfortunately the race fell by the wayside about 12 years ago. You’ll have to ask a senior club member why this was allowed to happen. Hillingdon is a sporty borough but lacks many events like the Ickenham 5 that I feel are open and appealing to all. This race could be a good promotional opportunity for athletics in Hillingdon and bring new members to the club. I hope as many of you will take part in this race which is open to those aged 15+ or share with your training partners and friends. Individual and team prizes up for grabs. The more entries the bigger the prizes. If you wish to help make the race a success on the day with marshalling or taking entries for example please contact me at
The race has a time limit of 1.30 hours and is made up of 2 laps so it wouldn’t be a big drain on volunteers time.
Entries open today, so don’t delay as there are only 500 places up for grabs. More information and how to enter is here.
