Fayers close to breaking the 4 minute barrier

On Saturday 28th July, running in the BMC Gold Standard Races at Oxford’s Bannister Stadium, Matt Fayers came second in the “A” mile race, finishing fast and only 0.25 seconds behind Craig Mottram of Australia (Bronze medallist at the World Championships 5K in 2005), ahead of many class athletes including David Bishop and Richard Weir reports Doug Milsom. In doing so he ran an astounding 4:01.53, which must be one of the best times ever for a British 17 year old and is a club U20 record and second best ever by any HAC athlete.
At the same meeting, Anupam Das came second in the D race in a PB of 4:26.39, also behind another Australian. He knocked 13 seconds off his previous best.
Rob Thompson also joined the PB gang by achieving 9:40.72 for the 3K steeplechase at the same venue. Full results here
