5 Hillingdon men travelled out to rural Wootton, near Bedford on Sunday to compete in the Bedford half marathon reports Martin Bateman. The forecast was for cold, wind and rain, but thankfully the latter never materialised to dampen the spirits of the 1500+ finishers. Ultra distance runner, Sam Blanshard (SM) made use of his recent training in Gerry Archer’s group to run a PB of 1:17.03 on a very undulating and windy course and finished fast to take 24th place. Paul Cuddihy (V35), unfortunatley had an off day and couldn’t hit his usual high standards and finished 32nd with 1:18.37. I (v35), in my first race at this distance for over a decade, was content with 35th and running a marker time of 1:18.44 PB. I don’t personally know how our other competitors, Gary Taylor V45 and Bill Harding V50 raced but they finished 632nd with 1:45.13 and 693rd with 1:46.56 respectively.
