National Cross Country Championships, Wollaton Park Nottingham, 22 February 2014

A stunning 51st place from Robert Thompson in the National Cross Country Championships helped secure 31st place for Hillingdon AC’s senior men’s team in the six to score competition and 20th place in the nine to score competition on a (mostly) dry but undulating course at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

Behind Rob, the backbone of the team who have competed for the club over the winter in the Met League constituted the men’s six and nine to score teams with James Laing (208th), Martin Bateman (387th), Ed Campbell (428th), Daniel Thompson (445th) and Scott Farley (525th) comprising the six to score team and Simon Connell (556th), Chris Woolley (632nd) and Paul Leppard (762nd) making up the nine to score team.  John Bignell finished 1400th, Bob Burton 1513rd, John Luscombe 1588th, Martin Searle 1564th, John Doyle 1588th and Alan Wells 1637th. A huge field of 1,657 athletes completed the men’s race (compared with 1,085 finishers at last year’s race at Sunderland) with 127 clubs finishing a six to score team.

Hannah Wells was the club’s sole representative in the senior women’s race finishing 185th out of 708 finishers.
