Eight hardy Hillingdon AC athletes competed at the National Cross Country Championships at Bolesworth Castle near Chester on a cold, wintery day in Cheshire. At a venue more accustomed to hosting equestrian events, it was cross country of a different type as some of the best athletes in the country competed in the biggest cross country race of the season.
In the women’s race Catriona Paterson and Hannah Wells finished 121st and 140th but were missing a third and fourth scorer to complete a team. In the men’s race, James Laing was first scorer for the club in 298th with the men’s team completed by Dan Thompson (503rd), Dominic Speight (756th), Paul Leppard (882nd), Martin Searle (1,379th) and Trevor Steeples (1,453rd) which saw Hillingdon AC finish 71st in the men’s team race.
