Metropolitan League Race Two, Stevenage, 08 November 2014

Hillingdon AC’s Senior Men’s A team finished eighth in Division One at the second Metropolitan League fixture of the season at Stevenage whilst the Senior Men’s B team finished fifth in Division Three. This result sees the A team slip from fifth to sixth place in Division One overall while the B team remain second in Division Three after two fixtures.

Rob Thompson was the first finisher for the club in 21st place with James Laing (53rd), Martin Bateman (54th), Daniel Thompson (72nd), Simon Connell (97th) and Edward Campbell (100th) all finishing in the top 100. Mike Dooley finished 122nd in his last race for the club for the immediate future.

Although there were season’s debuts in the Met League for Chris Ingram, Steve Hirons, Pete Warburton, Dave Smith, Gary Horn, Adam Hirst, Nigel Ealand and Paul Martin, with four A team scorers missing from the team that competed at the first Met League fixture, the A team were always going to struggle to replicate their fifth placed finish at Claybury. So it proved as although the A team packed in well to finish ten finishers in the first 166 places, there was then a large gap between the tenth placed finisher for the club, Sam Blanshard and the remaining two A team scorers, Dave Newman and Paul Leppard in 254th and 263rd place.

Steve Hirons was the first scorer for the B team in 274th place with the B team scoring eight completed by Dave Martin in 346th place. There were 442 finishers. Full results may be found here.
