A fantastic start to the cross country season for Hillingdon AC’s senior men as the A team secured fifth place in Division One in the first Met League race at Claybury.
Boosted by club debuts from Mohamed Mohamed (third) and Abdishakuv Nageeye (19th), the men’s A team finished nine scorers in the top 100 and closed out the scoring 12 with Wes Godfrey in 172nd place. Of the scoring 12 there were a number of notable performances with James Laing finishing 11th, Andy Symonds making his competitive return to club athletics in 87th, Dan Thompson who ran despite injury to finish 96th and Liam Holbrook, who marked his senior Met League debut in 114th. In addition Ed Campbell (pictured) made the time to race, finishing 51st before making a rapid departure in order to jet out of the country!
The B team finished fourth in Division Three with Philip Warburton the first scorer for the team in 195th and Dave Smith the eighth and final scorer for the B team in 287th. Elsewhere, Abdulqadir Sharifal just missed out on a place in the scoring 8 finishing 289th in his first race for the club, Joe Doyle made his senior Met League debut in 291st and there were cross country debuts for Mat Taylor (329th), Paul Spencer (395th) and Kevin Tierney (400th). There were 39 senior men competing for the club out of a total field of 427.
