Hillingdon AC’s senior men finished second team at the Liddiard Trophy at Kingsbury on Saturday. With the ground very dry underfoot and in relatively hot conditions, Hillingdon finished their scoring eight within the first 35 to just pip Ealing Southall & Middlesex to silver medal position, scoring 194 points to Ealing’s 195. Thames Valley Harriers won the trophy for the second year in succession, filling many of the early finishing positions to score 90 points.
Matt Fayers was first scorer for the club finishing 7th. Matt was closely followed by Martin Bateman in 8th, whilst the resurgent Richard Jenkin continued his recent return to form to finish 20th. Paul Hull was the next scorer for the club, finishing in 29th place despite limited recovery from the Abingdon Marathon six days earlier. Behind Paul, Hillingdon packed in a number of athletes close together comprising of Tony Grant (30th), Chris Ingram (32nd), James Shipley (33rd) and Simon Claridge (35th). Dave Newman and Paul Leppard finished just outside of the scoring places in 37th and 38th. Hillingdon had 23 athletes competing in total including three runners in their 70s: Roy Cnudde, Ricky Johnson and Mick Miller.
Hillingdon AC had no athletes in the women’s race.
