2012 London marathon club places

Following a new procedure this year which required Club members to formally apply for one of the four Club places for the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday 22 April 2012, a panel of three senior Club officials met recently to discuss the merits of each applicant and allocate the Club places accordingly.

What quickly became evident during this discussion was that the key question asked was “What do you do for Hillingdon AC?”.

As well as training and competing, the panel were looking for applicants to have helped in some way in the running of Hillingdon AC during the previous 12 month period and these Club places are now being allocated as a reward for this. We are a club that depends solely on volunteers to help us function and, were we to rely only on members that no longer trained or competed, we would probably either cease to exist or no longer function as effectively as at the moment.

Therefore the recipients of the 2012 Hillingdon AC Club places for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon are:

Bob Burton, Scott Farley, Brian Feldman and James Shipley.

The lucky recipients should now make contact with Gavin Collett as they have to return an entry form with the appropriate fee to the London Marathon office by 13 January. Late entries are not accepted under any circumstances. As they have been allocated a Club place, a requirement is that they wear a Club vest in the race.

Should they have the misfortune to suffer serious injury or realise that they no longer wish to take advantage of this place, a replacement can be nominated to the London Marathon office up until 10 February. Please let Gavin know as soon as possible if this is the case, as there are four other Club members who have applied to take a Club place.

Gavin Collett.
